Construction Activities at Avenue Road and Eglinton

As we gear up to begin mining operations at the Secondary Entrance in November, there are many other parcels of preparatory work to complete. Construction outside of the long-term set up is very active and will be for the rest of the year.

Residents and businesses can expect to see many works happening at various locations in the roadway or on the sidewalk, often at the same time.

This Week at Avenue Station:

  • Tunnel Concrete Pours – Bore Hole Drilling Work
    • The drilling work is slightly delayed. We expect the site to be in place until the end of the week, or early next week.
  • Sewer Bypass Work
    • Starting this week west of Avenue Road and at the Avenue Road and Eglinton intersection.
    • Work at each location takes approximately 3 – 4 days. Once the bypass is installed, the trenches are covered with metal plates.
    • Sewer Lining will begin in a few weeks, following the bypass work.
  • Overnight Centre Line Dewatering Work
    • Work began on Monday night and will continue nightly for the next 3 – 4 weeks.
    • Each night, all but one lane on Eglinton is closed to allow a work zone to be set up in the middle of the road to install the dewatering wells.
  • Daytime Dewatering Work
    • Currently, the work is mostly concentrated at the east end of the station area, near Eastbourne and Lascelles.
  • Monitoring Instruments (installations, surveying and monitoring)
    • Installations continue and will likely be complete in early 2018.
    • Please expect an increased frequency of surveying/monitoring crews as they continue to check ground conditions for mining operations.

Coming Soon:

  • Gantry Crane installation at the Secondary Entrance, as early as November. More details to come.
    • The Crosstown is the first project ever in Canada to assemble an overhead crane on a pile wall above an open excavation.
    • Read more about this type of crane and how we're using it at Oakwood Station (another tight footprint, mined station).
