OVERNIGHT UTILITIES RELOCATIONS AT BIRCHMOUNT ROAD AND EGLINTON AVENUE EAST
WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?
As part of construction of the future surface alignment for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, crews continue to relocate and upgrade existing overhead and underground telecommunication between Victoria Park Avenue and Birchmount Road.
Beginning as early as Monday April1, 2019 and lasting for approximately two (2) weeks. Crews will be performing telecommunication relocation work west of the Birchmount Road and Eglinton Avenue East intersection. To minimize the impact to pedestrians and road users, this work will be performed overnight.
Stage 1
Stage 2
TIMING
- Starting as early as Monday April 1, 2019 and lasting for approximately two (2) weeks.
- Work will take place between the hours of 7:00 PM and 7:00 AM.
- The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
- Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Crews will be relocating underground telecommunications infrastructure.
- The north south crosswalk on the west side of the intersection will be closed during stage 1.
- The north south crosswalk on the west side of the intersection will be opened during stage 2.
- Construction activities will include concrete removal, hydro-vacuuming, digging and paving.
- Due to the nature of this work, at times there will be noise and vibration around the work area.
- Lane reductions will be required to complete this work.
- Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS
- Intermittent lane reductions will be required on Eglinton Avenue East while crews set-up and/or demobilize.
- There may be occurrences where a shoulder is narrowed and a traffic protection barrier is placed to accommodate safe working conditions.
PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS
- The north south crosswalk on the west side of the intersection will be closed during stage 1.
- The north south crosswalk on the west side of the intersection will be opened during stage 2.
- Temporary pedestrian re-routing around work zones may be necessary to accommodate this work.
TTC IMPACTS
- Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
