WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?

As part of bridge rehabilitation, road widening and road reconstruction along Eglinton Avenue East between the Don Valley Parkway and Wynford Drive, new traffic staging (depicted below) will be implemented as early as May 31, 2019.  This traffic configuration will be in place for up to two (2) weeks.

There will be a sidewalk closure on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East crossing the Wynford Bridge. The sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East is available. The pedestrian staircase on the north side of the bridge will be closed for one (1) week to accommodate sidewalk reconstruction. The south staircase will reopen prior to the closure. 


TIMING

  • Work will begin as early as May 31, 2019 and continue for up to two (2) weeks
  • Work is expected to occur from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., seven (7) days per week, Monday through Sunday.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion. Work may be rescheduled or extended due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS

  • Lane closures are required to safely conduct this work.
  • A minimum of one two through lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained.
  • Construction zones may require adjustments once implemented – updated notices will be distributed in the case of any changes.

PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS

  • There will be a sidewalk closure on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East crossing the Wynford Bridge. The sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East is available for pedestrians.
  • The pedestrian staircase on the north side of the bridge will be closed for one (1) week to accommodate sidewalk reconstruction. The south staircase will reopen prior to the closure.
  • The north-south crosswalk east of Wynford Drive will be reinstated for this stage.
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians. Detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes.

 TTC IMPACTS

  • There will be no new changes to TTC stops for this stage.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with the TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
