Guideway Construction on Eglinton Avenue East at Wynford Drive
WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?
Guideway construction is expected to begin on Eglinton Avenue East crossing the Wynford Bridge as early as Monday, June 17, 2019. New traffic staging (depicted below) will be implemented and remain in place until December 2020. The crosswalk and westbound traffic signal east of Wynford Drive will be removed July 29, 2019. Road widening and reconstruction activities continue on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East, east of the bridge.
TIMING

Work will begin as early as June 17, 2019 and continue until December 2020.

Road widening on the north side of Eglinton will continue until late August, 2019.

Work is expected to occur from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., seven (7) days per week, Monday through Sunday.

The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion. Work may be rescheduled or extended due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
WHAT TO EXPECT

This stage at the bridge is dedicated to guideway construction and includes: cutting and removal of existing asphalt, excavation, installation of subgrade materials, duct banks installation and track drainage, track slab and stops.

Road widening and reconstruction activities continue on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East, east of the bridge. Road widening activities include: excavation, road reconstruction, paving, wet utility relocations and approved tree removals.

Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone. As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS

A minimum of one two through lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained.

Construction zones may require adjustments once implemented – updated notices will be distributed in the case of any changes.

The crosswalk and westbound signal east of Wynford Drive will be removed July 29, 2019.
PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS

The sidewalk on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East will remain closed east of the Wynford Bridge.

A pedestrian route is available between Don Mills Road and Victoria Park Avenue on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East.

North and south pedestrian staircases from Wynford Drive to Eglinton Ave E are now open.

Adjustments to pedestrian routes may be required as work progresses. Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians. Detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes.
