Update: Emergency Exit Building Construction near Petman Avenue Work Shifts to Middle Lanes of Eglinton Avenue East for Utility Relocation and Road Decking

juillet 11, 2016

What work is Taking Place?

What: With utility relocation work and road deck installation on the north side of Eglinton complete, crews will switch to the middle lanes of Eglinton. During this stage, crews will continue to relocate utilities and install road decking. Following work in the middle Eglinton lanes, construction will return to the south side of Eglinton.

Why: Construction of emergency exit buildings requires utilities to be safely relocated. Depending on site conditions, this could include moving gas, hydro, water mains, sewers, and telephone lines, traffic lights and street lighting. Road decking will also be installed in order to prepare for shaft excavation.

When: Starting as early as mid-July 2016, crews will occupy the roadway in the middle lanes of Eglinton Avenue East, for approximately two weeks. Some work may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances.

Where: The work zone will extend from approximately east of east of Forman Avenue to west of Marmot Street and will occupy the middle lanes of Eglinton Avenue East.

Traffic Details

  • Traffic will be shifted to the eastbound and westbound curb lanes of Eglinton Avenue East around the work zone.
  • Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction from east of Forman Avenue to west of Marmot Street.
  • Petman Avenue at Eglinton Avenue East will remain open. However, there will be no left turns permitted from or onto Petman Avenue.
  • On-street parking will be prohibited along Eglinton within the construction zone.
  • Traffic patterns in the area will continue to change and shift during different stages of work.

All work zones will be separated from the right-of-way with traffic cones, concrete barriers and/or fencing. Traffic delays are expected during construction. Please watch the traffic signs and take care when travelling near construction areas.

Pedestrian Information

During this stage of construction, all sidewalks will remain open. Access to stores along Eglinton Avenue East will be maintained.

Work Hours

In certain situations, some late night and/or early morning works may be required to complete the work and keep construction moving. The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at its discretion.
