Update: Mount Pleasant Crosswalk Re-opened Demolition Work Continues

août 15, 2016

As a response to community request, Metrolinx and its constructor, CTS, have redesigned the pedestrian crosswalk staging around the demolition site on the northwest corner of the Mount Pleasant Road and Eglinton Avenue East intersection. Pedestrians are now safe to use all crosswalks.

What work is Taking Place?

In June 2016, crews began the demolition of the former Second Cup building at the northwest corner of Mount Pleasant Road and Eglinton Avenue East. The building was designed in 1928 and originally established as an Imperial Bank of Canada. Metrolinx concurred with the City of Toronto’s recommendation that the building be added to the Inventory of Heritage Properties and has ensured that certain structural and design elements will be preserved.  During demolition, the building façade will be disassembled brick-by-brick, catalogued, labelled, and then reassembled upon construction of the future station structure. What to Expect

  • Businesses and residents near the work site can expect to hear trucks, excavators, backhoes, and other construction equipment, as well as dust from demolition activity and debris removal.
  • In addition to the construction activities, residents can expect to see material storage and equipment movement in the designated work zone.
  • For safety purposes, metal fencing, concrete barriers and scaffolding will be erected around the work zone.
  • Construction staging has been designed to reduce impacts to the neighbourhood as best as possible while allowing crews to complete the work safely.
