UPDATE: Weekend Lane Reductions and Turn Restrictions For Hydro Ductbank Inspections at Science Centre Station

What Work is Taking Place?

As part of ongoing utility relocation work for the future Science Centre Station, crews will be conducting hydro infrastructure investigations in the vicinity of Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue beginning as early as January 30, 2017. 


  • Work is expected to begin as early as January 30, 2017 and will be completed in phases. During the week, work will take place within existing work zones. On the weekend, additional space within the Eglinton Roadway will be required in order to complete the work. 
  • This stage of the utilities relocation is expected to last up to six (6) weeks. Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Work is expected to be performed between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, however the contractor is permitted to work between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Limited overnight works may also be expected. Updates on works taking place during overnight periods will be communicated separately.  

What to Expect

Construction zones will be established in the vicinity of the Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East intersection. Residents and businesses near construction sites should anticipate noise from excavators, bobcats, hydro vac trucks and/or other construction equipment during this work. All access to businesses will be maintained.

Traffic Details

Lane reductions are required to safely conduct all phases of this work. Weekend work will require Eglinton Avenue East to be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction and some turn restrictions will be in place. Signage will be placed to advise motorists of restrictions. Work is being conducted on the weekend and off-peak hours to minimize impacts to traffic. Paid-Duty Police Officers will be present during this work.

The weekend of February 4, 2017

  • Eglinton Avenue East be reduced to one lane of traffic.
  • Right turns from eastbound Eglinton Avenue to southbound Don Mills Road will be prohibited for all vehicles.

Additional lane reductions and/or turn restrictions may be required on the weekend of February 11, 2017.

The weekend of February 25, 2017 

  • Eglinton Avenue East be reduced to one lane of traffic.
  • Right turns from eastbound Eglinton Avenue to southbound Don Mills Road will be prohibited for all vehicles, including TTC buses.
  • On February 19, 2017, right turns from westbound Eglinton Avenue to northbound Don Mills Road will also be prohibited for all vehicles, excluding TTC buses.

Pedestrian Details

Existing sidewalk closures will remain in effect. Please watch for signs directing pedestrians to alternate routes. Property access will be maintained. As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Transit Users

Relocation of bus stops and re-routing is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers. Please watch for posted notices indicating new information.
