Re-Issued Date: January 22, 2018

What Work is Taking Place?

Crews will rebuild the hydro structure in the vicinity of Sloane Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East and relocate overhead hydro wires between Sloane Avenue and Victoria Park Avenue. In preparation for construction of the future Sloane and O’Connor surface stops and future guideway running in dedicated transit lanes in the centre of Eglinton Avenue, this work is necessary to accommodate the future road alignment.

Hours of Work

  • Beginning as early as late January 2018 for approximately four (4) months.
  • This work may take place between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Updates on works taking place during overnight periods will be communicated separately

What to Expect

  • Crews will rebuild the hydro structure at Wilson Creek in the vicinity of Sloane Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East. Crews will also relocate overhead hydro wires and install new hydro poles along Eglinton Avenue East between Sloane Avenue and Victoria Park Avenue. Once complete, crews will connect to existing infrastructure.
  • The overhead wire and pole work will be done in stages, starting at Sloane/Bermondsey and moving eastward along Eglinton Avenue East.
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavators, bobcats, trucks and other construction equipment caused by utility relocation activity.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • Intermittent closures of the westbound Eglinton curb lane between Sloane and Victoria Park Avenue will be required between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
  • Two through lanes of traffic going westbound on Eglinton will be maintained. No changes will be made to eastbound Eglinton traffic.
  • Access to businesses and properties will be maintained.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

TTC Impacts

  • TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders. Please watch for posted signs indicating the adjusted locations.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
