Watermain Relocation between Kennedy Road and West of Midland Avenue

What Work is Taking Place?

Crews will begin the relocation and upgrading of an existing watermain on the north and south sides of Eglinton Avenue East, the North Service Road and the South Service Road from Kennedy Road to approximately west of Midland Avenue. In an effort to minimize disruption to local traffic and commuters, work will be performed in stages.  

Please note that additional notices may be provided with new information as the work progresses. 

Hours of Work

  • Beginning as early as Sunday December 10th, 2017 for approximately four (4) months. 
  • Work on Eglinton Avenue East will occur between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., up to seven (7) days a week.
  • Work within the service roads will occur between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., up to seven (7) days a week.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Work zones will be erected on Eglinton Avenue East, North Service Road and South Service Road between Kennedy Road and west of Midland Avenue.
  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavators, bobcats, trucks, and other construction equipment.
  • Task lighting will be used to safely perform overnight works.
  • For safety purposes, fencing will be erected around the work zones.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • A minimum of two through lanes of traffic will be maintained on Eglinton Avenue East during the day and one through lane at night (as required).
  • The north-south pedestrian crosswalk on the east side of Kennedy Road will be closed for the duration of this stage.
  • Paid Duty Police Officer or flag persons will be onsite to assist with traffic and pedestrians.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
  • The contractor will try to keep a minimum of three (3) pedestrian crossings to maintain access to all corners of the intersections.
  • Signage will be placed to advise motorists and/or pedestrians of any changes.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Transit Information

Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers. Please watch for posted notices indicating new information.
