What Work is Taking Place?

We are working steadily in the east on the Eglinton Crosstown. In early April, there will be drilling in the middle of the roadway (Eglinton Avenue East), as crews begin the support of excavation work (shoring) to construct a tunnel to the new Kennedy Station.

Shoring will involve drilling and installing steel piles and braces and tie-backs from Ionview to west of Midland to support the underground construction.

Shoring is a common step in the process of installing the foundation of a structure and will be done using a phased approach. The first phase will take roughly three (3) months to complete. The entire shoring process will take approximately 12 months to complete.

Hours of Work

  • Work is expected to start early April 2018, and the first phase is expected to last approximately three (3) months.
  • Work is permitted between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Occasional overnight work may be required. Metrolinx will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Nearby residents and businesses can expect to hear trucks, excavators, backhoes, a pile drill and other construction equipment, and may experience dust from drilling activity and debris removal.
  • Heavy truck traffic entering and exiting the work zone can be expected. In addition to construction activity, residents can expect to see equipment, material storage and movement within designated work zones.

Traffic and Pedestrian Details

  • There will be a no-right-turn restriction from southbound Kennedy Road to westbound Eglinton Avenue East for the duration of this stage.
  • The north-south crosswalk on the east side of the Kennedy-Eglinton intersection will close for the duration of this stage.
  • The west, south, and north crosswalks will remain open for the duration of this stage.
  • Signage will be in place to direct pedestrians to alternate routes.
  • A minimum of two lanes of traffic in each direction on Eglinton Avenue East and Kennedy Road will be maintained.
