Rehabilitation Works at Wynford Drive and East Don River Bridges

What Work is Taking Place?

The East Don River and Wynford Drive Bridges will be rehabilitated as part of the construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. Works include deck replacement, reinforcement and repairs to the abutments and beams to both bridges.

Starting as early as late-June, bridge rehabilitation works on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East will commence and take approximately three (3) months to complete. Once complete, traffic will be shifted to the north side of Eglinton Avenue East to allow work to proceed on the south side of the bridges.

All works are in support of the construction of the Crosstown and new LRT tracks and guideway (dedicated transit lane) in the center of Eglinton Avenue East. 

Hours of Work

  • Starting as early as late-June and lasting for approximately three (3) months on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East.
  • Work may occur between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, seven (7) days a week.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Updates on works taking place during overnight periods will be communicated separately.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Bridge rehabilitation works require traffic on Eglinton Avenue East to be shifted to the south side of Eglinton Avenue East to allow work to proceed on the north side.
  • Lane closures are required to safely conduct the work.
  • A minimum of one through lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained.
  • Access to affected businesses and properties will be maintained.
  • No obstruction to TTC services.
  • The first step in the rehabilitation process is the installation of work platforms beneath the bridge. Platform installation began on June 11, 2018, and is currently underway.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • Lane reductions will be required in each direction to safely conduct all phases of this work.
  • Minimum of two through lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained.
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians Flagmen will be present during this work to assist the public.
  • The sidewalk on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East adjacent to the work zone will be closed for the duration of the work to protect the safety of pedestrians.
  • Pedestrian stairs from Wynford Drive to Eglinton Avenue East will be maintained.
  • Pedestrian detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes and flagmen will be present to assist.

TTC Impacts

  • TTC bus stops may be relocated away from work zones.
    • Please watch for posted signs indicating the adjusted locations.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with the TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
