Traffic Change at Don Valley Parkway Ramp to Wynford Drive Bridge

octobre 31, 2018

What Work is Taking Place?

A new traffic staging will be implemented between the Don Valley Parkway off-ramps and Wynford Drive Bridge as part of utility relocation works (depicted below), as early as November 4th.

Crews will also continue the rehabilitation of the Wynford Drive Bridge as part of the construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. Works include deck replacement, reinforcement and repairs to the abutments and beams to the bridge. Bridge rehabilitation works require traffic on Eglinton Avenue East to be shifted to the north side of Eglinton Avenue East to allow work to proceed on the south side.

All works are in support of the construction of the Crosstown LRT tracks and guideway (dedicated transit lane) in the center of Eglinton Avenue East.

Timing

  • Starting as early as Sunday, November 4, 2018 and lasting for approximately six (6) months.
  • At the Don Valley Parkway West intersection, there will be three (3) stages with the first stage lasting approximately one (1) month. Separate notices will be issued for each stage within this traffic configuration.
  • Work may occur between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, seven (7) days a week.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Updates on works taking place during overnight periods will be communicated separately.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • A generator will be onsite to facilitate site services. It may run continuously, including overnight between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. for the next six (6) months.
  • Access to businesses and properties will be maintained.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Traffic Impacts

  • Traffic on Eglinton Avenue East at the Wynford Bridge will be shifted to the north side of Eglinton Avenue East to allow work to proceed on the south side.
  • Lane closures are required to safely conduct the work.
  • A minimum of one through lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained.

Pedestrian Impacts

  • The sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East between the Don Valley Parkway South Off-Ramp and Wynford Drive will be closed for the first stage of the traffic configuration (approximately 1 month) to protect the safety of pedestrians.
  • The pedestrian staircase on the south side of the Wynford Drive Bridge will also be closed for the duration of the work.
  • Pedestrians will be required to use the Don Mills Road intersection, Don Valley Parkway East intersection or temporary crossing east of Wynford Drive to cross Eglinton Avenue East.
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians. Detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes and flagmen will be present to assist.

TTC Impacts

  • The eastbound TTC bus stop located on southwest side of the Wynford Bridge will be removed for the duration of the work (approximately 6 months).
  • The eastbound TTC bus stop located on the southwest side of the Don Valley Parkway South Off-Ramp will be removed for the first stage of this configuration (approximately 1 month).
  • The eastbound TTC bus stop located on the southwest side of the Don Valley Parkway North Off-Ramp will be shifted east of the intersection for the first stage of this configuration (approximately 1 month).
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with the TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
