TRAFFIC CHANGE AT DON VALLEY PARKWAY

WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?

As part of road widening and reconstruction works approaching and within the Don Valley Parkway and Eglinton Avenue East intersections, two new traffic stages (depicted below) will be implemented. Each stage will last approximately four (4) weeks. The first stage will be implemented as early as February 11th, 2019. 

All works are in support of the construction of the Crosstown LRT tracks and guideway (dedicated transit lane) in the center of Eglinton Avenue East.

TIMING

  • Starting as early as February 11th, 2019 and lasting for approximately four (4) weeks each.
  • Work may occur between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, seven (7) days a week.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Updates on works taking place during overnight periods will be communicated separately.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • A work zone will be set up on the north side of Eglinton Ave East at the west Don Valley Parkway ramp.
  • A work zone will be set up on the north and south side of Eglinton Ave East between the east and west Don Valley Parkway ramps.
  • Pedestrians will be rerouted around construction zones.
  • Intermittent sidewalk closures will be required at the north-south crossing at the Don Valley Parkway west ramp. Closures are required to maintain the safety of pedestrians.
  • Access to businesses and properties will be maintained.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS 

  • Lane closures are required to safely conduct the work.
  • Two lanes through lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained. 

PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS 

  • The sidewalk on the north side of Eglinton Ave E will be closed between the East and West Don Valley Parkway ramps.
  • Intermittent sidewalk closures will be required at the north-south crossing at the Don Valley Parkway west ramp. Closures are required to maintain the safety of pedestrians.
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians. Detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes. 

TTC IMPACTS 

  • The westbound TTC stop at Eglinton Avenue East and the Don Valley Parkway west ramp will be shifted slightly west and a temporary platform will be installed. 
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
