Last Updated: January 14, 2019

WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?

As part of utility relocations, road widening and road reconstruction along Eglinton Avenue East between Sloane Avenue and Victoria Park Avenue, new traffic staging (depicted below) will be implemented as early as January 15, 2019. This traffic configuration will be in place for up to four (4) weeks.

All works are in support of the construction of the Crosstown LRT tracks and guideway (dedicated transit lane) in the centre of Eglinton Avenue East.

TIMING

  • New traffic staging will be implemented as early as January 15, 2019 and will be in place for approximately four (4) weeks.
  • Work is expected to occur from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., seven (7) days per week, Monday through Sunday.
  • To support the continued progress at the Wilson Brook Culvert site, a generator will be onsite to operate a water pumping system to remove accumulated precipitation from the construction zone. It may run continuously, including overnight between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. as required based on weather conditions.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Work may be rescheduled or extended due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • A separate notice will be provided for necessary driveway closures.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
  • Construction zones may require adjustments once implemented – updated notices will be distributed in the case of any changes.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS

  • Lane closures are required to safely conduct this work.
  • A minimum of one through-lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained.

PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS

  • The sidewalk on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East will be closed to pedestrians near the Wilson Brook Culvert worksite (east of Sloane Avenue and west of Jonesville Crescent).
  • Pedestrians will be required to use the sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East.
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians. Detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes.

TTC IMPACTS

  • A temporary TTC bus platform will be installed for the eastbound bus stop west of Bermondsey Road.
  • A temporary TTC bus platform will be installed for the westbound bus stop east of Jonesville Crescent.
  • The westbound bus stop west of Victoria Park Avenue will be removed. A westbound stop will be available east of the intersection.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with the TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
