Traffic Restrictions at Bermondsey Road and Sloane Avenue at Eglinton Avenue East

avril 1, 2019

Latest Update: April 17, 2019

WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?

Throughout 2019, Eglinton Crosstown LRT construction requires temporary changes to intersection operations from Credit Union to Ionview for road paving and guideway construction. This work is required for the construction of the Crosstown LRT tracks and guideway (dedicated transit lane) in the centre of Eglinton Avenue East.

Starting in early April, Bermondsey Road will be closed at Eglinton Avenue East. There will be no access from Eglinton to Bermondsey, Bermondsey to Eglinton or Sloane to Bermondsey for approximately six (6) weeks.

Following the completion of the south side, the work zone will shift to the north side of Eglinton Avenue and Sloane Ave will be closed at Eglinton. There will be no access from Eglinton to Sloane, Sloane to Eglinton or Bermondsey to Sloane for approximately six (6) weeks.

TIMING

  • Traffic will change to as early as April 8, 2019
  • Work may occur between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., seven (7) days a week.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Updates on work taking place during overnight periods will be communicated separately.
  • Work may be rescheduled or extended due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Following the south and north side closures, there will be an additional six (6) week restriction of through north and southbound traffic from Sloane to Bermondsey and Bermondsey to Sloane.
  • Eglinton Avenue must be widened for LRT and the road must be paved prior to guideway installation. Completion of these activities requires temporary changes to intersection operations.
  • Access to properties and businesses will be maintained.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
  • Three pedestrian crosswalks will remain open at all times.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS

  • A section of the south sidewalk will be closed between Credit Union Drive and Bermondsey Road.
  • The north sidewalk will be open and north-south crossing is available at Credit Union and Swift Drive as well as Bermondsey Road and Sloane Avenue.
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians. Detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes.

TTC IMPACTS

A TTC Detour will be required for Route 91 Woodbine.
