OVERNIGHT UTILITIES RELOCATIONS AT BIRCHMOUNT ROAD AND EGLINTON AVENUE EAST
WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?
As part of construction of the future surface alignment for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, crews continue to relocate and upgrade existing overhead and underground telecommunication between Victoria Park Avenue and Birchmount Road.
Work began April 1 and will continue on the east side of the intersection for approximately two (2) weeks. Crews will be performing telecommunication relocation work east of the Birchmount Road and Eglinton Avenue East intersection. To minimize the impact to pedestrians and road users, this work will be performed overnight.

TIMING
- Work began April 1, 2019 and will continue for approximately two (2) weeks.
- Work will take place between the hours of 7:00 PM and 7:00 AM.
- The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
- Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Crews will be relocating underground telecommunications infrastructure. Work will be conducted in stages.
- Lane reductions and turn restrictions will be required to complete this work.
- Construction activities will include concrete removal, hydro-vacuuming, digging and paving.
- Due to the nature of this work, at times there will be noise and vibration around the work area.
- Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS
- Intermittent lane reductions will be required on Eglinton Avenue East while crews set-up and/or demobilize.
- There may be occurrences where a shoulder is narrowed and a traffic protection barrier is placed to accommodate safe working conditions.
PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS
- Temporary pedestrian re-routing around work zones may be necessary to accommodate this work.
TTC IMPACTS
- The west bound bus stop will be relocated farther east.
- Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
