Extended: Upcoming Traffic Changes at Kennedy and Eglinton

What Work is Taking Place?

As part of the continued support of excavation works (shoring) and utility relocations for the future Kennedy Station, traffic staging at the intersection of Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue East will be changing in October. Shoring began in April 2018 and will continue in phases at the intersection.

This traffic set-up has been in place from January 2019 and will be extended until early October 2019.

Hours of Work

  • This traffic set up was implemented in late January 2019 and will be extended until early October 2019.
  • Once the new traffic set up in in place, this phase is expected to last until early October 2019 with incremental improvements to traffic to follow in subsequent stages.
  • After the set up and for the period of 2 years, we will be finishing off the remaining support of excavation (SOE) in this area, then continue with the construction of the portal.
  • We may work weekends and past 5 pm or nights as may be required.
  • Support of excavation (SOE) work will be performed between the hours of 6 AM and 5 PM, Monday to Friday.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • During the preparation and flip itself, nearby residents and businesses can expect to see line painting vehicles, and other light vehicles carrying the traffic equipment and signage.

Traffic Impacts

  • A minimum of two lanes of traffic in each direction on Eglinton Avenue East will be maintained.
  • One through lane southbound traffic on Kennedy Road will be maintained.
  • Left turn restrictions westbound at Ionview Road and Eglinton Avenue East
  • New traffic signals will be installed 160m east of Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue East.

  • The north-south crosswalk on the west side of Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue East intersection will be closed for the duration of this stage.
  • The crosswalks on the north, south and east side of the intersection will remain open for the duration of this stage.
  • Temporary sidewalk access to Kennedy Station only located at the south side of Kennedy Road, pedestrians will need to cross to north side to continue on Eglinton Avenue East.
