GUIDEWAY CONSTRUCTION ON EGLINTON AVENUE EAST AT THE DON VALLEY PARKWAY

 

WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?

Guideway construction approaching and within the Don Valley Parkway and Eglinton Avenue East intersection has begun at the Don Valley Parkway west ramps. Beginning as early August 19, the Don Valley Parkway east intersection will also begin guideway construction, traffic staging is depicted below. Guideway construction will continue until December 2020.

To accommodate these traffic configurations, a temporary ramp will be constructed at the Don Valley Parkway east intersection. Preparatory work is underway. All works are in support of the construction of the Crosstown LRT tracks and guideway (dedicated transit lane) in the center of Eglinton Avenue East.


 TIMING

  • Preparatory work and construction of a temporary ramp is underway.
  • Guideway construction will begin as early as August 19, 2019.
  • Work may occur between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, seven (7) days a week.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. If this occurs, we will endeavor to provide reasonable notice.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • A temporary ramp will be constructed prior to the implementation of this construction stage.
  • This stage is dedicated to guideway construction and includes: cutting and removal of existing asphalt, excavation, installation of subgrade materials, duct banks installation and track drainage, track slab and stops.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone. As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS 

  • Lane closures are required to safely conduct the work.
  • Two lanes of through traffic in each direction will be maintained.

PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS

  • Pedestrian routes will be available on the north and south side of Eglinton Avenue East.
  • North-south pedestrian crosswalk will be available at the Don Valley Parkway west ramps. 
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians. Detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes
