Temporary Crosswalk Closure at Credit Union and Swift Drive

WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?

Guideway construction at the Credit Union and Swift Drive intersection began on September 3, 2019. A six (6) week restriction of northbound and southbound through-traffic from Swift to Credit Union and Credit Union to Swift is in place until mid-October, 2019. To safely perform a concrete pour at the worksite, a temporary closure of the north-south pedestrian crosswalk will be required for half a day on Monday, October 7, 2019 and Friday, October 11, 2019. A north south crosswalk is available at the Bermondsey Road and Sloane Avenue intersection.

TIMING

  • Temporary closure of the north south pedestrian crosswalk will be required for half a day on Monday, October 7, 2019 and Friday, October 11, 2019.
  • Work may occur between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., seven (7) days a week.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Work may be rescheduled or extended due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Temporary closure of the north-south crosswalk at the Credit Union and Swift Drive intersection.
  • This construction stage is dedicated to guideway construction and includes: cutting and removal of existing asphalt, excavation, installation of subgrade materials, duct banks installation and track drainage, track slab and stops.
  • There will be a six (6) week restriction of northbound and southbound through-traffic from Swift to Credit Union and Credit Union to Swift for guideway construction.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone. As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

 

PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS

  • Temporary closure of the north-south crosswalk at the Credit Union and Swift Drive intersection.
  • The north sidewalk will remain closed east of Sloane Avenue to Victoria Park Avenue.
  • A flag person will be onsite to assist with pedestrian safety and detour.
  • Pedestrian rerouting around work zones is done to protect the safety of pedestrians. Detours will be clearly marked with signage to direct pedestrians to the alternate routes
