Update: Extended Construction Hours at Chaplin Station June - July 2020

What Work is Taking Place?

Extended construction hours at Chaplin Station will resume on Wednesday June 24, 2020 and will continue into July 2020.  Activities will take place at Main Entrance located on the north side of Eglinton Avenue West between Chaplin Crescent and Gilgorm Road, and at the Tertiary Entrance located on the south side of Eglinton Avenue, east of Chaplin Crescent.  Activities will include, deep excavation, loading and hauling of excavated spoils, removal of struts and walers, and deliveries of structural materials.

 Chipping of hardened material and concrete will be required as part of deep excavation.  An excavator with a jack hammer will be used to perform chipping.  Chipping will take place between 5:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m. only.  Notice will be provided in advance of sustained periods of chipping.

Hours of Work

Main Entrance:

  • Delivery of structural materials will take place between 5:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m., Monday – Saturday beginning mid-June 2020 through July 2020

Tertiary Entrance:

  • Deep excavation, loading and hauling will take place between 5:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m., Monday – Saturday beginning mid-June 2020 through early July 2020
  • Removal of struts and walers will take place 24 hours, Monday – Saturday 24 beginning Wednesday June 24, 2020 for approximately 1.5 weeks
  • Delivery of structural materials will take place between 5:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m., Monday – Saturday beginning early July 2020 through early August 2020

The contractor may not always work during these hours, but may do so at its discretion.  This work may be longer or shorter than expected

What to Expect

  • Noise from construction activity, including heavy equipment, trucks and a ventilation fan
  • Use of site lighting
  • Work will take place from the Main and Tertiary Entrance work zones
  • Property access will be maintained

Traffic and Pedestrian Details

  • There is no change to the current traffic configuration and pedestrian routes associated with this work
  • Chaplin Cres and the Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway are expected to remain closed until July 17, 2020

Travelling Smart during Construction

Travel delays are expected with the Crosstown construction. Please allow extra time for your journey. Traffic will be extra heavy at peak periods during the Crosstown construction. When possible, please travel during the off-peak period between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
