Overnight OCS Cable Installation on Eglinton Ave at Laird, Leslie, Sloane & Kennedy. March 1 - April 2

What Work is Taking Place?

Crews will be installing OCS (Overhead Catenary System) cables along Eglinton avenue east between Laird drive, Leslie street, Swift drive, Sloane avenue, and Kennedy road. Overhead catenary is the system installed overtop of the rails of a light rail system, to provide operational power to the LRVs (Light Rail Vehicles).

What to Expect

Cables will be installed overhead using a high rail vehicle. To minimize the impacts to traffic, work will be performed overnight between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. A 15-minute closure of each intersection will be required as the high rail vehicle passes through the intersections. Paid duty officers will be onsite nightly to assist with traffic management.  Site lighting will be required. There will be Minimal noise from construction crews in the work zone.

 

HOURS OF WORK

  • Installation will take place March 1 – April 2, 2021 between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

 

TRAFFIC DETAILS

  • Nightly short-term closure of the following intersections:

  • Leslie Street

  • Swift Drive

  • Sloane Avenue

  • Installation will otherwise occur within existing work zones

  • Northbound & southbound through and left turn movement will be restricted at the intersections for approximately 15 minutes, between 1:30am and 5:00am.

  • Eastbound & westbound left turn movement will be restricted at the intersections for approximately 15 minutes, between 1:30am and 5:00am.

PEDESTRIAN AND TTC DETAILS

  • There will be no changes to existing pedestrian routes or TTC stop locations for these activities.
