What is the Crosstown?
The Eglinton Crosstown is a 19-kilometre light rail transit (LRT) line that will run along Eglinton Avenue through the heart of Toronto, with an underground central section. The line will connect Mount Dennis in the west to Kennedy Road in the east, and the new service will be up to 60% faster than the bus service today.
Backfilling at Avenue Station Secondary Entrance
What Work is Taking Place?
- Backfilling is the next stage of the demolition activities at the Avenue Station Secondary Entrance, 274-278 Eglinton Avenue West.
- This involves refilling and leveling the demolition site as well as removing materials that currently form a ramp into the pit.
- Approximately 150 trucks will be entering and exiting the site to load or unload materials.
Timing
- Backfilling with start as soon as June 6, 2016 and will take approximately three weeks to complete.
- Hours of work are 7am to 5pm
What to Expect
- One to two trucks per hour are expected to enter the laneway behind 256 to 302 Eglinton Avenue West and enter the Secondary Entrance site at 274-278 Eglinton Avenue West.
- Each truck will interrupt traffic in the alley for up to 15 minutes.
- On most occasions, trucks will be able to coordinate to allow priority to private deliveries.
- Trucks waiting to enter the laneway may be parked on Oriole Parkway, however this is expected on limited occasions.
- Residents and businesses can expect to hear noise from construction equipment and at times, vibrations from soil compaction activities may be felt by those closest to the site.
