Overhead Hydro Work Continues for Leaside Station

What Work is Happening?

Since September 2016, crews have been completing overhead hydro relocations around the Bayview Avenue and Eglinton Avenue intersection. As early as the week of October 24, crews will be replacing overhead wires and anchors on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East at Bessborough Drive.

  • As part of the preparatory works for the future Leaside Station construction, installation of above ground and in-ground monitoring points will take place in the vicinity of Eglinton Avenue East and Bayview Avenue. Construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT line, including 15 underground stations, is underway. Since the end of school, many construction sites have been set up for station construction and the set-up of some major intersections along Eglinton Avenue has been changed.

  • To prepare for future construction of Leaside Station, crews will complete substantial utility relocations around the intersection at Eglinton Avenue East and Bayview Avenue.
  • The first stage of utility relocations includes relocation of existing underground Bell utilities.

Hydro Utility Relocation for Leaside Station

What work is taking place? 

Crews will relocate and upgrade existing overhead hydro utilities on side streets around the Eglinton Avenue and Bayview Avenue intersection. Once relocated, outages will be required to switch services to the new infrastructure. Outage impacts will be communicated separately only to those directly impacted by the outages.

As construction continues on the emergency exit building near Leaside High School, Eglinton Avenue East is required to be temporarily closed between Donlea Drive and Hanna Road, in order to remove and replace existing road decking.

Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Investigations at Bayview and Eglinton

What Work is Taking Place?

  • To prepare for future construction of the Leaside Station, crews will be conducting Subsurface Utility Engineering investigations along Eglinton Avenue East to determine the location and depth of existing utilities.
  • Crews will drill and use a vacuum truck overtop of existing utilities within the boulevard and roadway, then a surveyor will examine the utilities to obtain coordinates for design purposes.
