East tunnel boring machines begin their journey!
The Eglinton Crosstown LRT tunnel boring machines 'Don' and 'Humber' will begin their journey westward on September 29, 2015, marking another milestone toward the completion of the new LRT.
The westbound tunnelling will start from the launch shaft located east of Brentcliffe Rd. and will proceed towards Yonge St. Work on the western segment of the tunnel has been underway since June 2013 with four of the 6.5 kilometres already complete. Preparatory work for the future station at Keele Street - Monday September 28 to Thursday October 1, 2015
What: Crews will inspect the condition of sewer lines with a closed circuit television (CCTV) truck via manholes in the vicinity of the future station site. Where required, crews may also use a hydro-vac truck to clean and safely dispose of debris. Read more »
Utility Relocation and Piling Works for the Emergency Exit Building near Petman Avenue
Emergency exit buildings (EEBs) are built in between stations when station platforms are more than approximately 760 metres apart to allow for easy evacuation of passengers. The construction of an EEB includes the building of an evacuation pathway, a set of stairs from the tunnel to ground level, and a small building on the surface. The scale of construction is similar to building a small-scale underground station. Generally, it takes up to 24 months to complete construction at each EEB.

What: Crews will continue installing monitoring equipment at the intersection of Avenue Road and Eglinton Avenue West. This equipment will measure important data related to the work of our tunnel boring machines underground.

What: Deck repair/maintenance is required for the decking area east of Allen Road on Eglinton.

What work is starting?
What: Enbridge Gas Distribution (Enbridge) will need to close the south end of Gilgorm Road (at Eglinton Avenue West) in order to complete the relocation of natural gas pipelines.

What: Monitoring equipment will be installed at Eglinton Avenue West and Bathurst Street. This equipment will measure important data related to the work of our tunnel boring machines underground. What phase of work is starting in the vicinity of Mount Pleasant Road?
What: Crews will build the Mount Pleasant headwall on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East, east and west of Mount Pleasant Road, for the future Mount Pleasant Station in advance of tunnel construction.
