Update: Laird West Headwall Construction – Phase 2 Work Shifts to the North Side of Eglinton
What phase of work is starting in the vicinity of Sutherland Drive?
What: Headwall construction has been underway in this area since the end of 2015. Crews have been building the Laird west headwall on the south side of Eglinton for the future Laird Station in advance of tunnel construction. Crews will soon begin on the west headwall on the north side of Eglinton. Read more »
Temporary Road Closure
What: Toronto Water shut off water this morning to residents and businesses between Kane Avenue and Scott Road along Eglinton Avenue and from Eglinton Avenue south to Cameron Avenue (one block).
Why: Crews working on a passage way connecting the twin tunnels of the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) noticed water and soil leakage last evening.
As a precaution to prevent any issues such as flooding, work was stopped immediately and this incident was reported to City authorities. Read more »
Monitoring Equipment Installation along Eglinton Avenue East
What: Monitoring equipment will be installed at major intersections along Eglinton Avenue East. This equipment will measure noise and vibration that may be related to the work of our tunnel boring machines underground. These measurements will allow construction crews to adjust tunnelling activities along Eglinton Avenue East if needed. Read more »
Emergency Exit Building near Petman Avenue - Temporary Partial Driveway Closure and Rolling Lane Restrictions
What & Where: As part of current work to construction an emergency exit building near Petman Avenue, crews will be relocating Toronto Hydro utilities on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East, between Cardiff Road and Forman Avenue. This work will occur in two stages and will temporarily block some driveways on the north side of Eglinton. Vehicles will be able to access the above noted addresses, at all times. Read more »
Yonge & Eglinton Avenue East Extraction Shaft Work Shifting to North Lanes
What: Work on the construction of the tunnel boring machine extraction shaft located within the Eglinton Avenue roadway on the east side of Yonge Street continues. The next stage of work is set to begin, and will involve construction shifting back to the north lanes of Eglinton Avenue. This work will include daylighting and relocating utilities.
Parking in the vicinity of Bathurst, Chaplin and Avenue during Construction
Transforming transit across the middle of Toronto is a significant undertaking and requires a lot of coordination. Construction is visible along the Eglinton corridor and on many side streets while we work to build this important transit project. In some cases, there will be short-term local street closures, turning and parking restrictions to allow for the construction to take place. Read more »
Yonge & Eglinton Avenue East Extraction Shaft Work Shifting to Centre Lanes
What: Work on the construction of the tunnel boring machine extraction shaft located within the Eglinton Avenue roadway on the east side of Yonge Street continues. The next stage of work is set to begin, and will involve construction shifting to the centre lanes of Eglinton Avenue. This work will include daylighting and relocating utilities.
When: Work shifting to the centre lanes is expected to start as soon as March 9, 2015. Timelines may be adjusted due to weather conditions and/or unforeseen circumstances. Read more »
UPDATE – Construction Shifts to the South Side of Eglinton for Bathurst Station Headwall Construction for Twin Tunnels
What we are building
What: Since October 2014, crews have been building headwalls for the future Bathurst Station ahead of the arrival of the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). Headwalls are underground support walls located at the east and west ends of the underground station. Read more »
Avenue Station Headwall Construction for Twin Tunnels Stage 2 – West Headwalls
What we are building?
What: In this phase of construction, crews will be building the west headwalls for the future Avenue Station. Headwalls are underground support walls located at the east and west ends of the station location. Following the site preparation, crews will be installing these underground station headwalls in advance of the arrival of the tunnel boring machines to the area. Work on the east headwalls began in January and is still ongoing. Read more »
Temporary Bridge Deck Installation on Eglinton Avenue
What we are building
What: Crews will be installing a temporary bridge deck on Eglinton Avenue for the future planned move of the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) from the extraction shaft. The TBMs will be moved from the extraction shaft on the west side of Allen Road to the launch shaft under construction on the east side of Allen Road. This bridge deck will facilitate the movement of the TBMs and is not for public use. Read more »
