Avenue Station Headwall Construction for Twin Tunnels

What we are building?

What: In this phase of construction, crews will be building the headwalls for the future Avenue Station. Headwalls are underground support walls located at the east and west ends of the station location. Long-term Closure of Highbourne Road at Eglinton Avenue West

What we are building

What: Construction of the headwalls for the future Avenue station requires a grout plant to be established nearby to pump a form of concrete, otherwise known as “grout”, to the station headwall location. In order to minimize road occupancy on Eglinton Avenue West this grout plant will be located within a section on Highbourne Road, south of Eglinton. What we are building?

What: A cross passage is a tunnel cut between two other parallel tunnels required for maintenance or emergency purposes. Crews will be building one headwall for the future cross-passage required for future maintenance of the tunnels.  Read more »

What is the Crosstown?

The Eglinton Crosstown is a 19-kilometre light rail transit (LRT) line that will run along Eglinton Avenue through the heart of Toronto, with an underground central section. The line will connect Mount Dennis in the west to Kennedy Road in the east, and the new service will be up to 60% faster than the bus service today.

Emergency Exit Building Construction - Continued Closure of Donlea Drive at Eglinton Avenue East - Phase 2

Emergency exit buildings (EEBs) are used to evacuate passengers from tunnels in the event of an emergency at track level during operation. An EEB is being built close to Donlea Drive.
