What we are building

What: A cross passage is a tunnel cut between two other parallel tunnels required for maintenance or emergency purposes. Crews will be building one headwall for the future cross-passage required for future maintenance of the tunnels.

Why: Headwalls create the frame for future cross passages and/or stations, and are required to be in place prior to the arrival of tunnel boring machines along the Eglinton Crosstown route. Construction of the headwall requires a grout plant and grout lines to be established nearby to pump a form of concrete, otherwise known as “grout”, to the headwall location.

Where: The work zone will extend from approximately Warren Road to Castle Knock Road on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West. The work zone will be separated from the right-of-way with traffic cones and concrete barriers and/or fencing.  Various traffic control measures will be in place on Eglinton Avenue near Duncannon Drive.  The construction zone will shift to the south side of Eglinton and will remain over the coming months for the construction of the headwall.
