The Eglinton Crosstown is a 19-kilometre light rail transit (LRT) line that will run along Eglinton Avenue through the heart of Toronto, with an underground central section. The line will connect Mount Dennis in the west to Kennedy Road in the east, and the new service will be up to 60% faster than the bus service today.

 

Demolition Work for Oakwood Station

In February 2016, crews began conducting preparatory activities in the Oakwood Avenue and Eglinton Avenue West vicinity to make way for the future Oakwood Station.

Upcoming Works – Demolition – Subject to Community Council Approval 

·        

Seven commercial and residential properties along the Eglinton Avenue West corridor will be demolished to make way for the construction of Oakwood Station

·        

The properties are located at 1578, 1580, 1582 and 1584 on the north side of Eglinton Avenue West, and 1611, 1615 and 1619 on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West

 

Safety

·        

For safety purposes, temporary metal fencing will be installed around each demolition site, with spotters present at gates as required during working hours.

·        

Sidewalk canopies will be erected to protect pedestrians from debris

 

Timing

·        

Demolition works are expected to begin as early as mid-March, and will last for approximately six (6) weeks

·        

Demolition works will take place between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM

 

What to expect

·        

Residents and businesses near demolition sites should anticipate increased noise from excavators, bobcats, and other construction equipment as well as dust caused by demolition activity and removal of debris

 

Traffic Impacts

·        

Road closures are not anticipated for demolition works 

·        

Laneway access will be maintained for demolition properties on the north side of Eglinton Avenue West 

·        

Sidewalk access will be maintained 

·        

Traffic control personnel will be present to manage the flow of truck traffic in the area

Parking Impacts

·        

Street parking on Eglinton Avenue West between Times Road and Oakwood Avenue will be unavailable for the duration of demolition

What’s next?

·        

Following demolition, excavated areas will be backfilled with clean fill, and station construction will begin. Further details will be communicated as they become available
