What work is taking place?

Between May 4 to May 11, 2017 crews will relocate and upgrade existing overhead hydro utilities at the Eglinton Avenue and Black Creek Drive in preparation for the the West Portal and Guideway, where the light rail vehicles will travel on bridged tracks above Black Creek Drive, and enter and exit the underground portion of the Crosstown.

Once hydro utilities have been relocated, outages will be required to switch services to the new infrastructure. Outage impacts will be communicated separately only to those directly impacted.

Hours of Work

  • The work will occur between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.up to seven days a week.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • If overnight work is required, Metrolinx will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.

Please note that work could be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Crews will relocate and replace existing hydro poles.

  • Crews will work in curbside lanes on Eglinton Avenue West and Black Creek Drive.
  • Expect to see construction equipment including a line truck to stand the new poles and string the overhead cables.
  • Expect to hear noise from vacuum trucks and other construction equipment necessary to complete the relocation.

 

Traffic Details

  • Restricted left turn from Eglinton Avenue north onto Black Creek Drive.
  • Southbound curb lane on Black Creek Drive will be closed to Eglinton Avenue.
  • An eastbound through lane on Eglinton at Black Creek Drive intersection will be closed from east of Keelesdale Drive.
  • Access to businesses will be maintained.

 

Pedestrian Details

  • The north/west pedestrian crossing on the west side of Eglinton Avenue and Black Creek Drive intersection will be closed.
  • All other pedestrian walkways will remain open.
