What:  Crews will be shifting construction to the north lanes on Eglinton Avenue East to continue constructing the headwalls for the future Leaside station.  

Why:  A final phase of work on the headwalls is required on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East before station construction begins.

When:  Work will begin as early as the week of April 4, 2016, and will continue for several weeks.Some work may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances.

Where:  The work zone will extend from approximately west of Mann Avenue to west of Bessborough Drive along Eglinton Avenue East. During this stage of construction, the work zone will occupy the north lanes on Eglinton Avenue East.


Traffic Details:
  • Traffic will be shifted to the south side of Eglinton Avenue East.  Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • The entrance to the Metro Plaza (656 Eglinton Avenue East) from Eglinton Avenue East will remain open for westbound traffic only.
  • The exit onto Eglinton Avenue East from the Metro Plaza will be closed.
  • Left turns from westbound Eglinton Avenue East to southbound Mann Avenue will be prohibited.
  • Left turns from northbound Mann Avenue to westbound Eglinton Avenue East will be prohibited.
  • Left turns from westbound Eglinton Avenue East into the 1750 Bayview Eglinton driveway will be prohibited.
  • Left turns from the Eglinton exit of 660 Eglinton Avenue East (Sunnybrook Plaza) to westbound Eglinton Avenue East will remain prohibited.
  • On-street parking will be prohibited along Eglinton Avenue East within this construction zone. 

Pedestrian Walkways
During construction, the north and south side Eglinton sidewalks will remain open and will be separated from the construction site by concrete barriers with chain link fence, temporary fencing or traffic barrels.   Please watch for additional signs directing pedestrians and take care when travelling near construction areas.  

Public Transit 
Both eastbound and westbound TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders. Please watch for posted signs indicating the adjusted locations.

Work Hours
Most of the work will be carried out between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week. In certain situations, some late night and/or early morning works may be required to complete the work and keep construction moving. The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at its discretion.

Noise and Vibration
Noise and vibration associated with this construction is to be expected.

The Eglinton Crosstown is a 19-kilometre light rail transit (LRT) line that will run along Eglinton Avenue through the heart of Toronto, with an underground central section. The line will connect Mount Dennis in the west to Kennedy Road in the east, and the new service will be up to 60% faster than the bus service today.
