What Work is Taking Place?
In early February 2022, a new pedestrian route will be implemented at Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue East to accommodate permanent dry utility works for Eglinton Station. This work will be completed in three phases and take approximately five (5) months to complete.
Phase One and Two of the work will take place at the north-west corner of the Yonge-Eglinton intersection. Phase Three will take place on the north side of Eglinton Avenue, west of Yonge Street. What to Expect
Construction activities including excavation, concrete works, and conduit installations will take place on the north side of Eglinton Avenue, and at the north-west corner of the Yonge-Eglinton intersection. Pedestrian rerouting around the work zones. Noise from trucks and use of heavy equipment can be expected. Concrete barriers, fencing, and signage will be in place to delineate the work zones. Traffic control personnel will be present, while the pedestrian changes are being implemented. Expect delays while travelling through the intersection. Access to businesses and properties is expected to be maintained at all times.
HOURS OF WORK
- Phase One: Early February 2022 for approximately two (2) weeks
- Phase Two: Mid-February 2022 for approximately two (2) weeks
- Phase Three: Expected early March 2022 for approximately four (4) months
- Construction activities are expected to take place Monday – Friday between 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
- Extended construction hours are currently underway and will continue during this work.
- This work may be delayed or rescheduled due to inclement weather and/or unforeseen circumstances.
PEDESTRIAN DETAILS
- Phase One: Pedestrians will be rerouted west around the work zone at the north-west corner of the intersection.
- Phase Two: Pedestrian will be rerouted north around the work zone at the north-west corner of the intersection.
- Phase Three: The sidewalk on the north side of Eglinton Avenue, between Yonge Street and 20 Eglinton Avenue West (Eglinton Tower Entrance) will be closed. A temporary walkway will be created south of the closure to maintain access for pedestrians travelling east and west on Eglinton Avenue.
TRAFFIC DETAILS
- No changes to the current traffic configuration are expected as a result of this work.
