What work is starting?
What: Bayview Station headwall work is complete. Crews will begin the following restoration work:
- Restoring the sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East, east of Bayview Avenue.
- Restoring hydro poles and overhead wires to their original locations, on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East, west of Bayview Avenue.
Why:
- During construction a temporary asphalt sidewalk was installed. Crews will pour concrete to restore the sidewalk to City Standard.
- Hydro poles were previously moved to allow for headwall work to take place. Crews will undertake two days of work to restore the hydro poles to their original location.
When: Starting as early as Wednesday, June 15, 2016 for approximately three days. Some work may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather conditions and/or unforeseen circumstances.
Where and Traffic Details
West of Bayview: Hydro pole relocation
- South side curb lane of Eglinton Avenue East between Mann Avenue and Bayview Avenue.
- At least one lane in each direction will be maintained for through traffic.
- Driveways will remain open during this stage of construction. However, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. there may be short interruptions to vehicular access to 589, 591, 593, 595 Eglinton Avenue East and 1750 Bayview Avenue.
- For the safety of pedestrians, the sidewalk will be temporarily closed at localized areas while crews relocate hydro poles.
- Appropriate signage will be in place when sidewalks are closed or pedestrian detours are required.
- Flagmen will be on site to assist pedestrians.
East of Bayview: Sidewalk restoration
- The eastbound Eglinton Avenue East curb lane (south side) will be closed.
- At least one lane in each direction will be maintained for through traffic.
- Driveways will remain open during this stage of construction.
- During this stage, crews will work on the sidewalk between the former McDonald’s restaurant to Leaside High School. The sidewalk will be temporarily closed.
- Pedestrians will be redirected at Bayview to the north side of Eglinton Avenue East to the pedestrian signal in front of Leaside High School. .
- The sidewalk will not reopen until concrete has cured and work is complete.
- Paid duty police officers and flagmen will be on site to help direct pedestrians.
Transit Information
or the safety of transit riders, the eastbound Eglinton Avenue TTC bus stop located east of Bayview Avenue will not be in use. Watch for posted signs and future information indicating new locations.
Work Hours
Most of the work will be carried out between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week. In certain situations, some late night and/or early morning works may be required to complete the work and keep construction moving. The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at its discretion.
