Temporary Crosswalk Closure and Sidewalk Blockage - Saturday, May 30 at 7:00 a.m. to Monday, June 1 at 8:00 a.m.

What phase of work is starting in the vicinity of Sutherland Drive? 

What:  A temporary closure of the Eglinton crosswalk and south-side Eglinton sidewalk on City of Toronto right-of-way near Leaside High School is scheduled for the above noted dates. During this time, pedestrians will be diverted to cross Eglinton at Bayview Avenue and Rumsey Road. Also, the south-side Eglinton sidewalk near Leaside High School will be temporarily blocked and not accessible to pedestrian traffic. Read more »

Latest Update: Laird West Headwall Construction on North side of Eglinton - Work Zone Extended East from Sutherland to Laird

What phase of work is starting in the vicinity of Sutherland Drive? 

What:  Crews will build the Laird west headwall on the north side of Eglinton for the future Laird Station in advance of tunnel construction. Headwalls are underground support walls located at the east and west ends of the station location. Also in this area will be a holding/storage area for work associated with jet grout during headwall construction. Read more »

Update: Emergency Exit Building Construction near Petman Avenue - Utility Relocation Work Moves to North Side of Eglinton Avenue East

Emergency exit buildings (EEBs) are built in between stations when station platforms are more than approximately 760 metres apart to allow for easy evacuation of passengers. The construction of an EEB includes the building of an evacuation pathway, a set of stairs from the tunnel to ground level, and a small building the surface. The scale of construction is similar to building a small-scale underground station. Generally, it takes up to 24 months to complete construction at each EEB.

Utility Work at Bayview and Eglinton (Update)

The Eglinton Crosstown is a 19-kilometre light rail transit (LRT) line that will run along Eglinton Avenue through the heart of Toronto, with an underground central section. The line will connect Mount Dennis in the west to Kennedy Road in the east, and the new service will be up to 60% faster than the bus service today.

What work is starting?

What: Crews will be doing some preparatory work at the intersection of Bayview Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East prior to the utility relocation and headwall construction for the future Bayview Station. Read more »

What:  There will be a temporary water shut off on Saturday, May 9th. Between 6:00am and 9:00am, there will be no water available from the taps.  

When:  Saturday, May 9, 2015, 6:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M.

Where:  Temporary water shut off will be experienced at the following addresses:

  • 20, 30, 40, 50 Eglinton Avenue East (north side)

On Monday, May 4, Councillor Josh Matlow hosted a public meeting with the TDSB, parents of children attending Eglinton Junior Public School and Metrolinx to discuss station construction plans regarding the location of a vent shaft on school property, and general construction staging activities regarding the setup of a jet grout plant nearby.
