TRAFFIC CHANGE ON EGLINTON AVENUE EAST BETWEEN THE WEST DON RIVER BRIDGE AND LESLIE STREET
WHAT WORK IS TAKING PLACE?
A change in traffic alignment is expected to occur on Eglinton Avenue East between the West Don River Bridge and Leslie Street as early as December 15, 2019. Traffic will continue to be one lane in each direction west of Leslie Street. The new configuration (depicted below) will accommodate guideway construction on the West Don River Bridge and retaining wall construction on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East.
HOURS OF WORK
- The traffic change will occur as early as December 15, 2019 and remain in place through to summer 2020.
- Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
- Work may occur between the hours of 5:00 AM and 11:00 PM, seven (7) days a week.
- The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Guideway construction includes cutting and removal of asphalt, excavation, installation of subgrade materials, duct bank and track drainage installation, and track slab and stop construction.
- Concrete barriers may be temporarily removed for construction vehicles entering and exiting the guideway work zone.
- Flaggers will be onsite to direct trucks.
- Retaining wall construction will include excavation, foundation preparation, hydrovacing, concrete works and backfill.
- The retaining wall will hold and stabilize the embankment created from the newly widened road
- Generators will be used when necessary to power equipment.
- Preparatory work includes sediment and erosion control measures and removal of existing infrastructure.
- Occasional overnight work may be required. Metrolinx will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.
- Road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone. As always, please take care when travelling through the work zone.
TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS
- Westbound traffic will be shifted to the north side of Eglinton Avenue East between Brentcliffe Road and the Leslie Street.
- Eastbound traffic will be shifted to the south side of Eglinton Avenue East between Brentcliffe Road and the Leslie Street.Traffic will continue to be one lane in each direction.
- The pedestrian sidewalk will be available on the south side of Eglington Avenue East only.
- Construction vehicles will be entering and exiting the work zone. Paid duty officers or flag persons may be used when required to assist with traffic control.
