Traffic Configuration Change at Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue

As early as Monday August 30, 2021, a new traffic configuration will be implemented at Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue. Traffic on Yonge Street will be shifted to the west side and traffic on Eglinton Avenue will remain on the south. The east-west crosswalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue will close, and the crosswalk on the north side will be relocated slightly south. This configuration will be in place for approximately two (2) weeks.  

During this stage, construction will take place on the east side of Yonge Street to accommodate works for Eglinton Station’s south-west entrance. Once this stage is complete, traffic will shift to the east side on Yonge Street and a new traffic configuration will be implemented. What to Expect

Construction activities including asphalt removal, concrete breaking, road decking installations, and utility works will take place on the east side of Yonge Street. Noise from trucks and use of heavy equipment can be expected. Concrete barriers, fencing, and signage will be in place to delineate the work zone. Traffic control personnel and/or a Paid Duty Officer will be present, while the traffic changes are being implemented. Expect delays while travelling through the intersection. 

Hours of Work

•    As early as Monday August 30, 2021, for approximately two (2) weeks

•    Works on Yonge Street are expected to take place between 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. 

•    Overnight work may be required to implement the new configuration.  

•    Extended construction hours are currently underway and will continue during this work.

•    This configuration may be in place shorter or longer than expected. 

Traffic Details

•    Traffic on Yonge Street will shift to the west side of the street. 

•    Traffic on Eglinton Avenue will remain on the south side of the street. 

•    One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue. 

•    All turns at the intersection will remain prohibited. 

Pedestrians Details

•    The east-west crosswalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue will be closed.

•    The east-west crosswalk on the north side of Eglinton Avenue will be relocated slightly south.

•    Access to properties and businesses will be maintained
