UPDATE: Avenue Station Headwall Construction

What: In this phase of construction, crews are building the headwalls for the future Avenue Station. Headwalls are underground support walls located at the east and west ends of the station location.

 Please watch for posted signs when travelling through the area.

Where: The current site west of Avenue Road will be shifted to the north side of Eglinton Avenue West. A traffic zone will be set-up on Eglinton from approximately Oriole Parkway to east of Elmsthorpe Boulevard. 

When: Construction on the northwest corner of the intersection will begin as early as July 23rd 2015. Construction is expected to continue into fall 2015. Timelines may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances. 

Traffic Details

  • Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Eglinton near the headwall construction zones and turning restrictions will be in place and posted. On-street parking will not be permitted within the work zones.
  • Avenue Road will remain open to traffic during construction.
  • Highbourne Road will remain closed at Eglinton during construction.
  • Left turns onto Avenue Road will be prohibited from eastbound Eglinton.
  • Left turns onto Avenue Road will remain prohibited from westbound Eglinton.
  • Left turns onto and from Eastbourne Avenue will be prohibited.
  • Left turns onto and from Braemar Avenue will be prohibited.

Traffic patterns in the area will continue to change and shift during different stages of work. All work zones will be separated from the right-of-way with traffic cones, concrete barriers and/or fencing. Traffic delays are expected during construction. Please watch the traffic signs and take care when travelling near construction areas. 

Pedestrian Details

  • During headwall installation, please expect up to 8 days of alternating sidewalk closures on Eglinton in the vicinity of the northwest corner of Avenue Road.  
  • A sidewalk closure is also expected in the vicinity of Morley Bedford Funeral Home during construction on the south side of Eglinton at Lascelles Avenue.
  • Detours will be in place. Watch for posted signs redirecting to other sidewalks as required. 

Transit Information 

For the safety of transit riders, TTC will relocate both eastbound and westbound bus stops in the affected. Watch for posted signs indicating the new locations.  

Noise and Vibration

Noise and vibration associated with construction can be expected with this work. 

Work Hours

Most of the work will be carried out between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., 7 days a week. In certain situations, some late night and/or early morning works may be required to complete the work and keep construction moving.  The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at its discretion.
