June 7, 2017

The term “dewatering” means pumping from the ground water at a site where there will be excavation.  At Eglinton Avenue East and Laird Drive, dozens of small wells will be drilled along the curbside eastbound lane. Wells will be drilled and shallow trenches will be required to lay the pipes, pumps, wells and valves to do the work.

Hours of Work/ What to Expect

  • Work is expected to commence as early as the beginning of June 2017.*
  • Drilling and trenching will occur between 7:00 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Equipment will remain in place after the rig has finished for the day. This approach will expedite the work and ensure it continues to move around the zone efficiently.
  • The entire installation will take approximately two months.
  • Equipment is expected to change position approximately every 3 days.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • Existing sidewalk closures at Laird Drive and Eglinton Avenue East will remain in place.
  • Access to bus stops and businesses will be maintained at all times.
  • Lane reductions will be in place on Eglinton Avenue East in the vicinity of the construction zone.
  • Access to driveways and streets on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East will be maintained and may be supported by Traffic Control Personnel.
  • Some on-street parking spaces will be impacted.

* Timelines are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances.
