Update: Emergency Exit Building Construction near Petman Avenue Work Shifts to North Side of Eglinton Avenue East for Utility Relocation

What work is Taking Place?
What: With utility work and secant piling installations on the south side of Eglinton complete, work will return to the north side of Eglinton at Petman. During this stage, crews will continue to relocate utilities.
Why: Construction of emergency exit buildings requires utilities to be safely relocated. Depending on site conditions, this could include moving gas, hydro, water mains, sewers, and telephone lines, traffic lights and street lighting.
When: Starting as early as mid-June, 2016, crews will occupy the roadway on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East, for approximately three months. Some work may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances.
Where: The work zone will extend from approximately west of Cardiff Road to east of Falcon Street and will occupy the north lanes of Eglinton Avenue East.
Traffic Details
- Traffic will shift to the south lanes of Eglinton Avenue East and remain reduced to one lane in each direction from west of Cardiff Road to east of Falcon Street.
- Petman Avenue at Eglinton Avenue East will reopen. However, there will be no left turns permitted from or onto Petman Avenue.
- No left turns from or onto Marmot Street.
- On-street parking will be restricted along Eglinton within the construction zone.
- The east driveway at 440 Eglinton Avenue East will remain open.
- The west driveway at 420 Eglinton Avenue East will remain open.
Pedestrian Information
- The south sidewalk on Eglinton Avenue East will reopen.
- To ensure the safety of pedestrians, there will be no through pedestrian traffic on the north Eglinton sidewalk from 420 Eglinton Avenue East to 440 Eglinton Avenue East.
- The work zone will be in front of 440 and 420 Eglinton Avenue East. Access to these buildings will be maintained but please watch for detour signs that will be posted. Access to stores along Eglinton Avenue East will be maintained.
For safety reasons, pedestrians will be separated from construction with concrete barriers and fencing. Please watch for additional signs directing pedestrians. Please take care when travelling near construction areas.
Transit Information
For the safety of transit riders, both eastbound and westbound TTC bus stops in the affected area will be relocated. Watch for posted signs and future information indicating the new locations.
Work Hours
Most of the work will be carried out between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week. In certain situations, some late night and/or early morning works may be required to complete the work and keep construction moving. The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at its discretion.
