What work is starting?

In February 2016, crews began conducting preparatory activities in the Eglinton Avenue East vicinity to make way for the future Eglinton Crosstown LRT.

Upcoming works – geotechnical testing

  • Crews will drill approximately 80 boreholes in the road to determine the condition of existing asphalt, soil and rocks along Eglinton Avenue East.
  • Boreholes will be drilled along the Eglinton Avenue East corridor, between Brentcliffe Road and Midland Avenue.

Timing

  • Geotechnical works began in February 2016, and are expected to continue until the end of July 2016.
  • Geotechnical works will be conducted between the hours of approximately 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

What to expect

  • Rolling lane closures can be expected with this work. Equipment and work trucks will be present along the Eglinton Avenue East corridor, between Brentcliffe Road and Midland Avenue, as crews move from one hole to the next.
  • Nearby residents and businesses can expect to hear noise related to drilling, saw-cutting, hydro-vaccing, and the use of heavy equipment.

Traffic impacts

  • Intermittent lane closures to eastbound and westbound lanes along Eglinton Avenue East will be in effect between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. for the duration of the geotechnical work.
  • Pedestrian walkways and property access will be maintained at all times.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

If you would like more detail about this work or any other aspect of the Eglinton Crosstown project, please do not hesitate to contact Heather Glicksman at (416) 482-7411. We thank you for your continued patience as we work to build rapid transit.

The Eglinton Crosstown is a 19-kilometre light rail transit (LRT) line that will run along Eglinton Avenue through the heart of Toronto, with an underground central section. The line will connect Mount Dennis in the west to Kennedy Road in the east, and the new service will be up to 60% faster than the bus service today.
