What Work is Taking Place?

As part of the ongoing watermain upgrades for the future Science Centre Station, crews will be conducting overnight watermain relocation works at the intersection of Eglinton Avenue East and Don Mills Road.

 In an effort to minimize disruption and to protect the safety of the local community and commuters, work will be performed overnight beginning as early as Sunday August 26, 2018 and will continue for approximately five (5) nights.

Hours of Work

  • Work is expected to begin as soon as Sunday, August 26, 2018, and will be completed over five (5) nights.
  • Work will occur overnight from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavators, bobcats, trucks and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity.
  • Property access to businesses will be maintained.
  • For safety, fencing, dust cloth, barriers, and scaffolding may be erected around work zones.
  • Noise, dust and lighting from construction activity can be expected.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when traveling near work zones.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • A minimum of one (1) lane of traffic will be maintained at all times.
  • Lane reductions and turn restrictions will be required to safely perform this work.
  • Existing crosswalk and sidewalk closures will remain in effect. Please watch for signs directing pedestrians to alternate routes.
  • A Paid Duty Officer may be present during this work.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

TTC Impacts

  • TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders.
  • In the event of relocation, please watch for posted signs indicating the adjusted locations.
  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops and buses respectively, is done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
