What Work is Taking Place?

Crews at the Rail Corridor continue working on the West Rail Corridor Development. Construction activities include LRT Tunnels, GO Bridge Expansion, and GO Platforms. Backfilling and compaction works will be ongoing north and south of Eglinton Avenue West to support platform construction. This work occasionally involves refilling and levelling the demolition site with fresh granular material and compaction of the material into the ground. Noise and vibrations can be expected. Crews will continue to use the access gate through the noise wall on Locust Ave and the vacant property at 117 Brownville to access the corridor. Construction notices will be updated in more detail on a regular basis as specific activities and operations occur.

Hours of Work

  • Activities within the Rail Corridor are scheduled through 2020.
  • Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 11:00pm, and on weekends from as early as 7:00am – 5:00pm.
  • Work may be extended due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours but may do so at its discretion.
  • This work may take longer or shorter than expected.

What to Expect

  • Construction of the LRT Tunnels include backfilling and grading.
  • Construction of the GO Bridge Expansion include shoring, excavation, concrete works, and structural steel installation.
  • Construction of the GO Platforms include excavation, concrete works, backfilling and grading.
  • Nearby residents and businesses can expect noise in the area caused by loaders, trucks and other construction equipment, as well as dust from debris removal.
  • Crews will be using a roller to perform backfilling and compaction works.
  • Noise and vibrations can be expected.
  • Crews will endeavor to minimize disruption as much as possible while this activity takes place.

 

Traffic & Pedestrian Details

  • Access to Weston Road and Eglinton Avenue West will be maintained.
  • All existing sidewalks and crosswalks will be maintained during this work.
  • Expect delays while travelling near work zones.

 

Transit Information

  • No impacts to TTC bus routes. 

 

Travelling Smart during Construction

Travel delays are expected with the Crosstown construction. Please allow extra time for your journey. Traffic will be extra heavy at peak periods during the Crosstown construction. When possible, please travel during the off-peak period between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
