What work is starting?

What: In conjunction with the nearby Eglinton Avenue East sewer rehabilitation work which occurred this past winter, crews are restoring a man-hole on Walder Avenue, just to the north of Eglinton Avenue.

Why: This work is necessary to complete the restoration work for Walder Avenue, following a major sewer upgrade beneath Eglinton Avenue.

When: Work has commenced, and will continue into the week of March 14, 2016.  Work may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather conditions and/or unforeseen circumstances.

Where: The work zone will be set-up on the west side of Walder Avenue, just north of Eglinton Avenue East to approximately 10 Walder Avenue (south of Roehampton Avenue).

Odour:

Workers are in the process of spraying/coating the interior of a man-hole shaft in order to rehabilitate it. An air-drying and curing resin/epoxy (styrene) is utilized to apply a film which coats the interior of the man-hole shaft.  It is unlikely that nearby residents may smell the resin, however, it is not harmful at these levels to their health. This is a standard process used for sewer repair work in the City of Toronto.

Traffic Details:

  • Traffic on Walder Avenue north of Eglinton Avenue East to 10 Walder Avenue (south of Roehampton Avenue) will be reduced to one lane in the northbound direction.

All work zones will be separated from the right-of-way with traffic cones and/or fencing. Traffic delays are expected during construction. Please watch for traffic signs and take care when travelling near construction areas.

Affected Driveways (during daytime work hours):

  • During the daytime, from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, the following addresses may be blocked due to construction: 532 Eglinton Avenue East (Walder Driveway); and 2 to 10 Walder Avenue.
  • After work hours, at approximately 5:00 p.m. all noted driveways will be re-opened.

Pedestrians

  • All sidewalks in this area will remain open during construction
  • Access to stores along Eglinton Avenue East will be maintained.
  • Please watch for additional signs directing pedestrians.

Work Hours

Most of the work will be carried out between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week. In certain situations, some late night and/or early morning works may be required to complete the work and keep construction moving. The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at its discretion.
