What work is starting?

What: Crews will be investigating and relocating utilities at the intersection of Mount Pleasant Road and Eglinton Avenue East prior to the construction of headwalls for the future Mount Pleasant Station.

Why: Headwalls are required to be in place prior to the arrival of tunnel boring machines at each of the stations. Construction of the headwalls requires the utilities to be safely relocated. Depending on site conditions, this could include moving gas, hydro, water mains, sewers, and telephone lines, traffic lights and street lighting to allow for the installation.

When: Starting as early as the second week of June, 2015, and for several weeks, crews will be working on the eastbound Eglinton Avenue East curb lane and adjacent sidewalk, just east of Mount Pleasant Road. Some work may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather conditions and/or unforeseen circumstances.

Where & Traffic Details

  • Crews will be working on the eastbound curb lane of Eglinton Avenue East, immediately east of Mount Pleasant Road.
  • During this work the eastbound Eglinton curb lane will be closed.
  • The affected eastbound Eglinton lane will be shifted north around the work zone area.
  • Traffic barrels or concrete barriers will be installed to separate traffic from the construction zone and in order to gradually merge traffic.

All store entrances on Eglinton Avenue East will remain open and accessible.

Traffic patterns could change and shift during this stage of work. All work zones will be separated from the right-of-way with traffic cones, jersey barriers and/or fencing. Traffic delays are expected during construction. Please watch for traffic signs and take care when travelling near construction areas.

For the safety of transit riders, both eastbound and westbound TTC bus stops in the affected area will be relocated. Watch for posted signs and future information indicating the new locations.
