What: Work on the construction of the tunnel boring machine extraction shaft located within the Eglinton Avenue roadway on the east side of Yonge Street continues. The next stage of work is set to begin, and will involve construction shifting to the centre lanes of Eglinton Avenue. This work will include daylighting and relocating utilities.

When: Work shifting to the centre lanes is expected to start as soon as March 9, 2015. Timelines may be adjusted due to weather conditions and/or unforeseen circumstances.

Traffic Details:

  • The construction zone will be within the centre lanes of Eglinton Avenue from approximately west of Cowbell Lane to west of Dunfield Avenue. 
  • Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, which will be in the north and south curb lanes. The work zone will be in the centre lanes. 
  • Left turns from westbound Eglinton traffic onto Holly Street will be prohibited.
  • Left turns from northbound Holly Street onto Eglinton Avenue will be prohibited.
  • Left turns from westbound Eglinton traffic onto Cowbell Lane will be prohibited.
  • Left turns from northbound Cowbell Lane onto Eglinton Avenue will be prohibited
  • Access to Eglinton Avenue to and from Cowbell Lane, Holly Street and Dunfield Avenue will remain open.

All work zones will be separated from the right-of-way with traffic cones, concrete barriers and/or fencing. Traffic delays are expected during construction. Please watch the traffic signs and take care when travelling near construction areas. 

Transit Information 

For the safety of transit riders, both eastbound and westbound TTC bus stops in the affected area will be relocated. Watch for posted signs and future information indicating the new locations.  

Pedestrian Information

Pedestrian walkways will remain open; however detours may be in place. Access to all stores and businesses will remain open during construction.

Work Hours

Most of the work will be carried out between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week. In certain situations, some late night and/or early morning works may be required. The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so when necessary.

Noise and vibration associated with construction can be expected with this work.
