Backfilling and Compaction at Eglinton Station

What Work is Taking Place?

  • Backfilling and compaction is the next stage of construction at the abandoned TTC bus depot, located at the south west corner of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue West.
  • This work involves refilling and leveling the demolition site with fresh granular material and compaction of the material into the ground. This activity will prepare the site for support of excavation, the following phase of construction.

Sidewalk Closure on Eglinton Avenue West

What Work is Taking Place?

Crews continue demolition of the former TTC Bus Bay site at 2190 Yonge Street. To ensure the safety of pedestrians and the general public, the sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue between Duplex Avenue and Yonge Street will close temporarily during this phase of work.

Geotechnical Monitoring and Instrumentation Works at Eglinton Station

What Work is Taking Place?

  • Crews will drill several boreholes in the Eglinton Station area to install monitoring equipment that measures settlement or movement in the existing structures during the forthcoming shoring (support of excavation).
  • Work will take place intermittently along Eglinton Avenue, Yonge Street, Cowbell Lane, Holly Street, Duplex Avenue, and Berwick Avenue, as crews move from one borehole to the next.

Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Investigations at Eglinton Station

What work is Taking Place?

  • To prepare for future construction of Eglinton Station, crews will be conducting Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigations along Eglinton Avenue between Duplex Avenue and Holly Street.
  • Crews will drill bore holes and use a hydro-vacuum truck within the roadway to determine the location of the underground utilities and the ground conditions around the intersection for design purposes.

Pedestrian Safety near Construction Sites

Construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT line, including 15 underground stations, is underway. Since the end of school, many construction sites have been set up for station construction and the set-up of some major intersections along Eglinton Avenue has been changed.

Two properties are to be demolished to make way for the construction of Eglinton Station:

o The abandoned TTC bus depot located at 2190 Yonge Street. 

o The Salvation Army Community Church located at 7 Eglinton Avenue East.

A large crane is required to perform various construction related tasks in the extraction shaft site. The crane will be transported into the extraction shaft construction zone area, which is on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East, at Holly Street.

Upcoming Works at Eglinton Station: Utilities Relocations

What work is Taking Place? 

  • Pending a City of Toronto permit, work will commence to replace and relocate existing utilities in the area of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue to make way for the future Eglinton interchange station. Over the coming months, storm and sanitary sewers, water mains, hydro ducts, and telecommunications utilities will be replaced and relocated in a series of stages.
